1)They chose Johnny because he is a boy, so he is strong, and they knew that Matt would give his life to save his family. Plus, Johnny went to that camp where he was well feed with fresh eggs, vegetables, and milk, so he had extra nutrients.
2)Miranda first found food by going to a school where soldiers were handing out food. Also, at the end of the book, she goes to the city hall, where citizens are able to sign up for food.
3)Miranda and her family survived, although, Mrs.Nesbitt and Peter, the mom's boyfriend both died.
